Client:
Moree Plains Shire Council
Project Overview:
The Mungindi Community Child Care Education Hub project aims to address the urgent need for alternative childcare services for children under four in Mungindi.
Captivate assisted Council to prepare the successful grant application for this project, securing $900,000 of funding. Recent changes in the funding model for preschools put Mungindi Community Preschool at risk of closure, leading to social and economic challenges for the community and increasing the need financial and in-kind support from State and Federal Governments to ensure the sustainability and accessibility of childcare services in Mungindi.
Objective:
This project aimed to secure funding to establish a 25-place childcare hub at Mungindi Central School, forming a partnership between Moree Plains Shire Council (MPSC) and Balonne Shire Council. Moree Plains Shire Council, as the Approved Provider, will own and operate the Mungindi Community Child Care Education Hub. The project involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including government entities, educational institutions, and community organisations.
Our Role:
Our role was to understand the project and challenges arising from changes in the Queensland childcare funding model, the potential closure of the existing community preschool, and the need for financial and infrastructure support from State and Federal Governments. We were tasked with developing the grant application, securing the necessary support and funding, and coordinating the application to meet requirements.
Challenges:
Expressing the need for this centre, articulating all the information and feedback to ensure we presented the facts to secure funding.
Outcome:
The successful grant application secured $900,000 in funding through the Community Child Care Fund (CCCF), comprising $600,000 for establishment and sustainability support and $300,000 for capital support over the next two years.
The outcome ensures continued access to quality care and early education for Mungindi families, enabling them to remain employed. The establishment of the Mungindi Community Child Care Education Hub not only addresses the immediate childcare needs but also contributes to the social and economic sustainability of the community.
The Hub is expected to employ approximately 4-8 people, significantly impacting the small town of Mungindi. The collaboration between Balonne Shire Council and Moree Plains Shire Council highlights the importance of cross-border relationships and ongoing advocacy for additional funding.
