Project Overview:

Central Coast Council initiated a project focused on conducting targeted interviews with individual landowners in Wadalba East. The primary aim of this project was to gather valuable perspectives and insights from landowners regarding future planning for the area. Additionally, the interviews aimed to identify common themes, concerns, and issues to inform future planning and test Council’s existing assumptions about the area.

Objective:

The primary objective of this engagement was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the aspirations and challenges faced by landowners in Wadalba East. This insight would inform future planning efforts for the area, ensuring that they align with the community’s needs and expectations.

Our Role:

  • Interviews: conducted targeted interviews with individual landowners in Wadalba East. We collected detailed responses from these interviews, which served as a valuable source of information.

  • We played an advocacy role, ensuring that each landowner had an opportunity to be heard and provide feedback about their specific situation.

Challenges:

  • Securing Participation: Ensuring active participation from landowners in the interview process involved good organisation and patience, however the majority of landowners were willing to share their perspectives.

    Communication: Ensuring timely and effective communication with landowners throughout the planning process, was essential, as was managing expectations about how feedback could inform decision making.

Outcome:

The project’s outcome included the successful gathering of diverse insights, aspirations, and challenges from landowners in Wadalba East. The interviews were an opportunity to open communication channels with landowners and provide an advocate for any potentially unheard voices. Our outcomes report generated from the interviews emphasised the importance of maintaining ongoing and transparent communication with landowners as planning for Wadalba East’s future progressed, particularly in cases where they may be real or perceived impact for landowners.
